hello and welcome to Webune Forums. this is the support area for our customer. if you are not a webune customer yet, we invite you to try our services.
this short tutorial will try to show you how you can obtain the host name of your computer or server.
many of our customer lease dedicated windows servers and often forget what the computer's hostname is. well, if you find yourself in a similar sistuation, we will show you how you can get the hostname of a server.
first be sure if you havent done so, RDP to your server's desktop. but if you are physically at your comptuer, then dont have to RDP.
access the DOS command ternminal. to access teh DOS command terminal, go to Start, then Run
in the Run window, enter: cmd
then click ok
this will open the DOS command prompt.
once there, enter this command:
hostname
then press enter on your keyboard, it will show you the computer's hostname
this is helpful if you have windows and cannot find host name, i hope we have helped you display computer name dos or display computer name on desktop. as you can see with these instructions its very easy to find computer name windows 98 xp or vista, even windows 7. so with the hostname command you can find computer name windows vista or other versions of. you can even use a vbscript display computer name, but thats a more advance tutorial. for now we will only show you how to find hostname windows xp. next time, we will focus on how to find hostname ip windows
that's it
