im getting this error on my fedora system:
The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds. It is likely that something bad is going on. Waiting for 2 minutes before trying again on display: 0.

UPDATE:
ok, this is what i did, i went to Start > Settings > Display
then in the hardware tab, i clicked on configured button, the selected:
Generic LCD Display:
LCD Panel 1024x768

so thats when i got this message:
Display settings changed
You need to log out and restart the X server for the changes to take affect.
Configuration was written to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, original configuration saved as /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup

so if after you have made changes to your display and when you reboot you can't see anything, try login in as single mode and replace the configuration file with the original
